I am thinking of launching an educational website with all the lessons as YouTube videos so I can monetize my work. My goal is for each video to reach 5000 views so how much money would that make me?
69 Answers
With 5000 views, a monetized YouTube channel might generate between $ 3.75 to $ 10 dollars. In average, between 0.75 to 2 dollars per 1000 views, for the average beginning channel. The biggest, most successful, channels might achieve $ 5 to 7.5 dollars per 1000 views.
There are several factors that might change your earnings: the quality/retention of your videos and the subject of your videos (Google tries to match the best banners to your audience, and different advertisers/markets certainly have different pocket sizes to reach their audiences).
Another important factor is the language/region of your videos: the US advertising market generally pays better than, lets say, the Brazilian advertisers. So, a YouTube channel in Brazilian Portuguese might generate less money, for the same amount of views, than an English spoken channel.

Advertisers only pay when someone clicks an ad or watches for 30 seconds. This is why you can't tie your channel views to dollars. If your video gets ten million views but nobody watches or click the ads, you don't make any money.
Going by this logic, you have to make your user click the ads or watch ads being played on your video. You can’t have control over this, so you can’t control the amount of money you can make per 1000 views.
Outside of YouTube, you can collect money from Sponsored Content and Affiliate Sales. For affiliate sales, people need to be pushed from your YouTube video to a specific link, then you’ll get a percentage(3-10%) from all sales from that customer forever.

You NEED your videos to be on the front page of YouTube Search results, when they are searching for a specific, high search volume, keyword.

First of all, YouTube doesn't really pay for "views" or "subscribers", instead it pays for the advertisements which appear on your videos. Also, not every time you play a video has an advertisement. It depends if any advertiser is bidding at that time. So, it is on the availability of ads.
All your YouTube earnings are visible on your channel's YouTube Analytics. You must connect a Google AdSense account with your YouTube account to claim the money. YouTube pays you through Google AdSense.
Basic steps on how you can Monetise and earn from YouTube shared below:
- Enable monetisation of your channel and videos.
- Link a Google Adsense account with your YouTube channel. This is important for you to claim the money from YouTube after your videos start making money. Threshold is 100$.
- When your videos are published, make sure you have monetisation "on" on them and select all types of ads.
- The number of times ads are being served on your videos and the kind of CPM it has decides how much money you make. e.g. 5000 views, but only 1000 monetizeable impressions (1000 times ads were shown and not skipped before 30 seconds). Average CPM is 4$ to 10$ (cost per mille - cost per 1000 impressions). So, you earn around 4$ to 10$ on the given video.
- YouTube keeps 45% and gives you 55% of the total earnings. So, your estimated earnings are different from gross earnings. Also, your final earning might differ from estimated earnings.
- Also, they have to pay tax too. Which is as per the country/state tax law.
These are the basic steps and factors you need to know. There are more in-depth things to be considered. So, now, you can do the maths and calculate how much you can earn.
More popular the channel gets, more ads Google will serve on their videos. Result: more money they make.
One of the most easiest ways to make money with YouTube is affiliate marketing.
What is affiliate marketing?
Let me explain to you how affiliate marketing works, why it’s GREAT to be an affiliate, how much money can you actually make and how you can get started.
Basic definition of affiliate marketing is:
"An Internet-based system where you (as an affiliate) get paid for referring sales or customers to another business."
It’s like how a real estate agent doesn’t own the houses they sell; instead they promote houses on behalf of their clients, and earn a cut of the sale price of any properties sold.
The merchant is the person or company that creates and owns the product. If a person decides to purchase, then the affiliate that sent them to the site earns a commission, which is a percentage of the product’s sale price. Pretty easy, right?
There are a lot of ways to place these commission-earning links on your website. One of the most popular ways to add links is to simply include them in your content.
You can write (or have someone else write) content on a specific topic, and then link to a product that the reader might find useful. As long as the link you use is an affiliate link, you'll be lined up to earn a commission.
6 great reasons to become an affiliate
1. Super super low start up cost. To start a regular business where you rent retail space and stock inventory could easily set you back tens of thousands of dollars. As an affiliate, you can get started for the cost of a burger and fries.
2. You don’t need a staff. No more office politics, and no messy payroll handling. When you get started as an affiliate you can do it all yourself, and when the time comes to grow your business it’s easy to outsource.
3. You don’t even need a product you simply have to promote products which are already for sale. Whether it’s an eBook about dog training your or a weight loss supplement – there is always a product out there that you can sell as an affiliate.
4. You don’t need any kind of expert skills. If you want to be an affiliate for weight loss products, then you don’t need a PhD in nutrition or exercise. All you need is an eager-to-learn mindset and the ability to market the right products to the right market.
5. Passive income. It’s a bit like the money you earn if you buy a house and then rent it out – for as long as you own that house and are renting it out, you earn money. In a normal job you only get paid once for the work that you do, but as an affiliate you can keep making money from the same work day in, day out.
6. You become your own boss. I’m not saying that you’ll be sitting on a beach drinking Pina Coladas and only working an hour a day after your first month as an affiliate. However, you do have the power to work when it suits you and have a more flexible life. You become your own boss – how cool is that?
How much money can you actually make?
Like any real business it all depends on how much effort you put in and how seriously you take it. For example if you only work an hour a day, or you spend most of your time checking emails or watching funny cat videos as opposed to doing the work, then you might not make much money at all.
But if you really dedicate yourself and treat your affiliate marketing like a real business, and you put 100% in every time you sit down in from of your computer, then you can DEFINITELY make a full time income.
Let’s do some quick math on how much you can actually make as an affiliate. Imagine you’re promoting Singorama, a really popular learn-to-sing training course.
Checking the affiliate statistics for Singorama tells us that the average sale earns you just over $106.
If you could get just ONE sale per day of Singorama (and trust me when I say there are many affiliates who make far more than that), then you would be making an extra $840 per week. That’s an additional $3360 per month in your bank account, or over $40,000 per year.
What would you do with that kind of extra money?
You’ll have a special link, known as an affiliate link, for every product that you’re promoting. Affiliate links have tracking in them to make sure that you get credited for every sale you make. When someone clicks on your link, then the merchant will know it was you who sent the customer.
So the big goal of affiliate marketing is to get as many people as possible clicking on your links and visiting merchant pages. The more people that click on your links, the more chances you have of making a sale and earning a commission.
This means that affiliate marketing is a lot about about getting “traffic” – which is basically the number of people coming to your site who can potentially click on your links.
The aim of the game is to get as much traffic as you can… because the more traffic you get, the more clicks you will get, and the more sales you will make.
In AffiloBlueprint, we cover loads of different ways of getting traffic! Some of these methods are paid, such as PPC (pay-per-click) advertising, and some are free, like SEO (search engine optimization) but take a little more time and effort on your part.
If this all seems a bit overwhelming, don’t panic. Getting started with affiliate marketing is not that hard.
Most importantly, you need to take action. The most successful affiliate marketers are those who do, rather than those who think about doing. Take what you learn from Affilorama and start working hard. You might not get it right the first time, but the experience is what really counts when you are learning affiliate marketing. You will hone your skills and abilities over time, so don’t sweat the fine points!
If you want to get it right the first time, then you need to try AffiloBlueprint. It’s our exclusive step-by-step blueprint for building profitable affiliate sites to a proven formula.
Hi there!
Congrats on the initiative, I think it’s an awesome idea.
Mastering YouTube Monetization
When it comes to making money on YouTube, there has bee na lot of confusion lately. People either think it’s super easy to make a quick buck, or that it’s impossible.
The truth is: it’s neither. If you are:
- Authentic
- Consistent
- Entertaining
Then you have a big chance of earning some cash… after a while. Good things take time!
Another myth is that you can make money from a certain amount of views. The thing is, once you’ve enabled monetization on your channel, it can go either way. There are videos with 10 million views who barely earned anything, simply because…
Users didn’t click on the ads.
It’s all about the clicks - not the eyeballs. If we assume that everything is alright with people’s engagement with the ads, with 5000 views per video you won’t earn more than a dollar per video.
Th YouTube world is tough! You can absolutely kick it up a notch though - everything can change for you if you manage to create just one viral video - I’ve seen it happen time and again.
Don’t give up!
Hope this helps.
First, forget about views and making money from views. Educational videos will take 3 years to get you enough money compared to the effort you put into them if you look at ad revenue only (unless CGP Grey promotes you)
Second, you're also lucky because educational videos usually bring people who want to learn something.
People who want to learn something are usually a bit smarter and more generous than your usual viewer.
If you create good quality and relevant educational videos, you will be able to get money from your viewers over third party funding sites. Patreon is currently most popular. (See Support CGP Grey creating Youtube videos)
Just keep in mind that it will be a tough road ahead so I'd recommend focusing on promoting and SEO-ing your website first.
It is very important to make relevant videos. Do not make educational videos about something nobody cares about, it will just be a waste of time and make sure to stay within a certain niche. Don't expand too far, you want dedicated viewers and they won't come or give you money if you don't make videos that are within their interests.

Hi, Full-time YouTuber here.
There is certainly not much money on YouTube. Everyone knows that. But since you want to make some educational videos, it won't fade away soon. And can become a good source of passive income. Provided your content being grade A quality.
Considering the average CPM of $1.5, you will get $7.5 for 5000 views. So if you make some 100 videos and get 5k views each, you will earn around $700 to $1000. It can me more if you partners with YouTube's MCN, sell stuff, ask for donation etc. But for an educational channel, these won't work.
However, if this is your first time (or you won't ask this qs in the first place), then getting 5k views on every video is not going to be easy. It takes time, knowledge and resources.
IMO for edu channels, Content is more important than subs. For instance Khan academy has millions of subs but only get a few thousands of views on most videos. Why? Diversity. So stick with your niche.
[Bummer: the above numbers are useless]
Now, I don't want to discourage you, but here is the truth.
Initially, you will have to put a lot of resources -- time for research, money for equipment etc and you won't get anything in return for couple of months. Unless you have some past experience on YouTube.
Even when you start getting regular checks from Google. It's still not worth the value to put into your channel. (Similar to startups)
Most YouTubers do it because they love what they do, money is second. And even then, they have to ask for patron and sponsorship, just to keep the show running.
Overall IMO, YouTube is not a good platform for full-time money making. But a great place to share knowledge and earn some passive income.

According to popular resources, here’s how the CPM varies based on the type of ads:
- CPM for In-stream/ Video ads: $2-$5/1000 views
(maximum for Pre-roll ads)
- CPC for Display ads/Banner ads: 0.80/1000 clicks
In 2013, advertisers on YouTube had to pay on average $7.60 per 1000 views for a pre-roll advertisement . In exceptional cases, the CPM even goes upto $10/1000 views in case of reputed channels having viral traffic, lots of subscribers with consistent & worthy content.
So if your goal is for each video to reach 5000 views, the money you would make totally depends on the CPM offered for your video ads & CPC of your banner ads.
If your advertiser places an ad with a Cpm of $1 per 1000 views:
And you make 500o views by then
Your total earnings would be: (1x5000/1000)=5$. As per, youtube revenue sharing policy, only 55% of this revenue generated would be owned by you.
Your share: 0.55x5=2.75$.
But wait, that's not the final amount, you need to consider, one most important thing, not all views are paid views.Only the ones that get converted are considered as paid views. The final amount you receive depends on this factor. If you have just 10% paid views. You might get 2.75x0.10=0.275$.
Finally, the amount you make totally depends on "paid views" & "CPM", which are controlled by your content.

Affiliate marketing is, without a doubt, the easiest and the fastest way to make money from YouTube
If you know what you are doing selling affiliate products on YouTube is really easy.
Affiliate marketing contains 3 roles to make it work, the advertiser, the distributor, the purchaser.
The advertiser
An advertiser can be an organization offering items like electronic gadgets, plane tickets, garments or auto parts, or a sponsor could likewise be an insurance agency offering insurance. The most important thing is that the advertiser is ready to pay individuals to offer its products to its potential customers and followed by selling its product.
The distributor
A distributor is an individual or organization that promotes an advertiser's products in return for acquiring a commission. Advertisers contractually consent to work with a distributor, then proves the distributor with resources – as links, marketing videos, banners or even text ads - that the distributor incorporates into their source of traffic.
The purchaser
The last part that finishes the affiliate marketing triangle is the purchaser. The purchaser is the person who really sees the promotion and afterward makes an activity (either by clicking a connection or by submitting their purchasing information through a form) that takes them from the distributor's source of traffic to the promoter's to finish the activity, which we call a conversion
So who should you be as?
Considering the fact that not many people have a ton of time and money to come up with a product, test it and actually bring it to the market. I suggest you to go the route of a distributor. It is not a one click get rich way to earn money online. Some work still has to be put in to drive traffic to your advertiser's product. But it is difficult to get someone to approach you and pay you to give them sales.
This Affiliate Marketing Course got it covered for you.
These are some of my earnings from Affiliate Marketing and YouTube
If you want to learn Affiliate Marketing this is the perfect course for you:
There is no perfect factor to calculate that how much a video that has been viewed 5000 times will pay you. There are a lot of factors…
Everyone below has been very detailed, I’ll just put it short.
Here are some of the variables YouTube pays you upon.
- Country/Region you come from: YouTube pays you depending on the country or region you come from, Highest paying country is US and the second highest is UK and it keeps on going below. Although there is a work around, you can just go to your country setting in YouTube and set it as US or UK (They’ll ask you to confirm it via a SMS on your phone number for selected country if you have already enabled the Monetization). You’re good to go if you haven’t enabled monetization yet on your channel, and YT wont ask you for any more info.
- Country/Region most of your visitors come from: The other factor is the traffic that your videos are getting, see when advertisers are advertising they pay for the country they are targeting, so if you are getting more US/UK based traffic than it is possible that you get paid higher.
- How much the Advertiser is paying YouTube for the Ad: The third factor is the payment made by the Advertiser to YT, see if the advertiser is good and is getting good CPC than it is possible that you will get paid less amount. But if your Advertiser is New, his CPC will be worse and it can be an advantage for you.
Hope this helps :)
Actually it depends on type of ads put to your videos.
And the money you make through these ads depends on the keywords you use while giving the title, description, tags of the video you are uploading.
Tip : Use keywords with higher bid rate.
Just for an example - you can see the difference from the screenshot below.
Using keyword "online education websites" would fetch you more as compared to using keyword "best educational websites".

Views alone from YouTube (money from adsens) won't make you any money on YouTube.
You should consider promoting other products and earning money from them beside google Adsense.
You can review products related to your own niche or video. If you do that, you can make money from YouTube with minimal amount of views and in fact, you can make money more than what some other channels make by just running google ads.
There is too much focus in these answers about focusing on earning through adsense.
Yes that was what the OP asked about but the best advice I can give is to diversify your income and make revenue through various streams and adsense is volatile at best.
here’s some more longer term techniques you can use.
**disclaimer** I wrote this guide but there is no paywall or advertising
Well, it’s clearly a variable figure.
Some YouTubers get paid $1-5 for per 1000 views.
**EDIT: You can calculate by yourself by following the steps
Or you can make more if you’re a lucky one, that you can read here.
Now, how much you’re getting paid? also depends on a number of factors.
So there’s no fixed amount you can make, however on a bad day you can still make $5.
you can also read more about YouTube monetizing Understanding monetization
In my experience, CPMs vary over time. You can expect anywhere from $.50 to $2 per thousand views, I would say. However, it really depends on the kind of videos you make. I suggest you fiddle around on the Google Keyword Planner website. You'll notice that certain industries like law, finance, and real estate bid really high on your ads. If you make a video in this niche and utilize these keywords and they trigger ads, your CPM could be a lot higher, and you'll earn a lot more if people actually click these ads.
As others have said, I would not recommend partnering with a network for quite some time. Several huge YouTubers are just barely scraping by because these networks - who frankly tend to not help much because it makes more financial sense for them to help big names - take up to 30% or more of their monthly earnings. 5000 views per video is extremely difficult. I've had my channel for 6 years or so now and I only have a handful of videos that have even reached into the thousands. It has to be a pursuit of love and not money, otherwise you won't keep up with it and your audience will retreat.

I do own three youtube channels. Onw in which I used to upload few educational videos. For that I earned 10–15$ for every 100k views. That mean .1-.15$/1k views.
After that, started one gaming channel. I do earn around .40$ for 1k views. That mean 40$/100k views.
In gaming channel Ive only 3 videos and im not active an user .
Why this differance?
It is because, If you start a channel educational based, your viewers will be aged above 16+. That mean they will install adblock extension. Due to which your will be very low. In case of gaming videos kids will be viewing your videos for that reason adrates will be more. Due to which you will earn more.
In other senario there are few tricks to increase your revenue. First you need to increase your RPM. For that you need to block few websites links in my ads. You will get to know which site to block once you start your channel.
Very soon IM going to start a new channel where i will explain How to increse RPM and list of websites which you can block.

Footnotes
From 5000 views, you can not actually monetize your website/youtube videos. THe content of the videos will have to be really good so that you get atleast 100 thousand views and thats when you can actually have some good money out of it.
Go for content which people really need, make it as simple as you can, let the voice clarity be very good. All the best !

I’m sure you have seen a viral YouTube video. They come in all shapes and sizes—from super popular songs like “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” to a funny grumpy cat, someone falling down, or even something completely off the wall like Ylvis' “What Does the Fox Say?" video. What do they all have in common? Well, these posters all made a ton of money on YouTube when their videos went viral.
So let's find out how to make money on YouTube.
First Steps
Making a lot of money on YouTube is not as easy as you might think. There are a lot of hurdles to overcome in the process. It's definitely not a way to get rich quick. However, if you have a hobby, are really good at a particular activity and would like to help people, are funny, or even if you just want to have some fun, YouTube is a great option to cash in some extra bucks doing something you love.
The first and probably most obvious starting point is set up YouTube account. You should have an idea of the types of videos that you want to upload. Next you’ll want to Enable monetization and sign up for Google AdSense.
Enabling monetization means that you agree you will only upload video content that you have the rights for and that you will play by the rules (such as not watching your own video over and over to boost ads). Google AdSense is the way you set up your payment information for when you actually start making money. I’ve posted links in the show notes of today’s episode so that you don’t have to hunt around for these links.
Next up you’ll want to become a YouTube Partner. This isn’t as hard as it used to be. In the past, to become a YouTube partner you had to have some 15,000 hours of your video watched at any point in time. The benefit here is that you can upload more than 15 minutes of video, which may help on some video projects. You also get analytics tools and some more advanced editing tools.
Now that you have monetization setup, along with Google AdSense, and YouTube partnership, you’re ready to go.
Types of Ads
Next let’s break down the types of advertisements on YouTube. You’re probably familiar with them if you watch any amount of YouTube videos. There’s the bottom text based ad that is displayed at the bottom of your video, and then there is the clip that plays at the beginning of your video. You can select which of these ads your video can have, and it might make a difference depending on your audience or how much revenue your video brings in.
The way advertising works with YouTube is probably one of the most complicated things that comes with trying to make money off of YouTube. The real estimate comes out to about $7.50 per 1,000 impressions. The difficult part is actually defining the word ‘impressions.’ The only time you make money on YouTube is when someone interacts with your ad or when it leaves an ‘impression’ on them.
This means that if someone skips an ad, or is running an ad blocker, then you don’t get paid for that view. This makes estimating the amount of views a video has and how much a user makes off of the video very challenging. It also depends if it’s a video ad at the front of your video, or just a box at the bottom of your page; this determines how many people interact with your ad and the amount of money that can be made.
At the end of the day, though, there are a lot of variables that can affect just how much you can make on YouTube. Your audience has a lot to do with the type of ad that would work best. For example, if you are making short funny videos, it’s probably best to not include a 30-second ad at the beginning—a viewer might just skip right on by. Luckily, YouTube has an analytics page that you can use to see just about every measurable aspect of your video—from demographics to time of day watched and location.
Generating Money
Now let’s talk about how to actually make videos that can generate money on YouTube. The first and most important thing is that you want your videos to be about something you are passionate about. If you’re not passionate, it will show in your videos—plus you’ll have less incentive to make them as time goes on.
I recommend coming out with normally scheduled videos at whatever interval you are comfortable with, whether that’s once a month or once a week. If you come out with regular videos, viewers are much more likely to ‘subscribe’ to your channel. Subscribing means that the user has started following you; if you post a new video. he or she will see it. This is a great way to build an audience and get some regularity to your viewership.
Make sure your videos are short and high quality. Unless you are doing targeted tutorials, or have some reason to keep your video on the long side (anything over six minutes), I recommend keeping it short. Even if you have to break the video into multiple parts, it makes the content more easily digestible by the viewer, which increases the likelihood it gets shared.
For example, a funny video that's 10 minutes long will have lower odds of being shared by a user who might tell his or her friends “you have to see this!" You’re aiming for something short, with a clear message, clear audio, and decent editing. A little bit of thought in the beginning could pay large dividends down the road.
Momentum
Next, you’ll want to keep the momentum of your video going. You don’t just get in a boat and paddle once and hope to get where you want to go. You have to keep paddling and marketing your video. This could be as simple as commenting back to comments people have left for your, commenting on other people’s videos, or sharing your video on Facebook or Twitter. Really any way that you can drive people to watch your video is beneficial.
Also, you can get more views, and drive more traffic to your video, by joining a YouTube Network, which is really just a group of videos. The idea is that by combining a lot of similar videos together, you’ll attract more views and make more money. (Buy Real YouTube Views, Subscribers and Likes)
However, networks sometime have fees associated with them, or they ask to own your content or any number of other requirements. I personally don’t think that it is worth joining a network and going through all the trouble. I would first try making your own videos and revenue on your own. Once you have some experience to go shopping and to see what networks are out there, what they provide and what they ask of you. If you are curious though here’s a link to the top networks out there.
At the end of the day, the best videos you can make involve something you love. Find a unique skill or space that you occupy and make videos for niche. This is the best way to get started and try your hand at making money with YouTube!
It’s about your topics, advertisers create or targetting ads for your content or not. But 5k views are not a parameter to give you an idea. You can earn 0.5 or 1 dollar at the maximum if you are an average quality content maker. But i don’t know your audience maybe you are producing the most effective content in youtube so you can earn 5 dollars too for 5k viewers but this is looking impossible.
You can produce a lot of videos that viewed 5k but you can’t be in the trendings so the most pay of payments earned by trending videos or referral videos.
Focus to make videos that related with your other videos and try to create them longer than 10 mins. If you create videos less than 10 mins you can only show an advertisement to your viewers.
Although the CPM (cost per mille - aka the amount paid per thousand ad views) changes depending on where your audience is based, I'd say to expect between €0.050 to €5 at the beginning. As you grow, it could change. Remember, not every country and not every person will be shown an advertisement before your video.
Also, do not join a network before you're big. They promise higher CMPs, but they'll also take a large chunk and you'll likely be stuck in a two-year contract. A lot of networks will approach you, and you should avoid them at all costs if they do. They will not help you grow unless you are already big and worth the investment. At the end of the day, they're a business.

Once you associate your YouTube account with AdSense, you’ll have access to the Ad Performance report in YouTube Analytics. This report provides three key metrics you'll find useful in measuring how well your ads are accomplishing your monetization goals. You should note that when an ad successfully appears to a viewer on YouTube content, this is called an impression. There can be multiple ad impressions per playback, or just one.
These three measurements can be used to measure and evaluate how different ad types perform over time relative to one another. They can also be used in conjunction with the Estimated Earnings report to calculate your earnings and measure your RPM (revenue-per-mille), or how much money you earn per thousand impressions on an ad. To determine your RPM, take your estimated earnings and divide by the number of impressions (found in the “compare metric” menu), then multiply by one thousand. When dividing, be sure you are using estimated earnings and number of impressions from the same period of time. Remember, the number of impressions may differ from the number of monetized playbacks because multiple ads can appear with a single video, and a unique impression is counted for each ad shown on your video overall.

- CPM (Cost-per-mille): the estimate for how much an advertiser paid per thousand impressions.
- Estimated Monetized Playbacks: The estimated number of times a viewer watches your video (i.e., a “view”) and is shown at least one ad impression, or when the viewer quits watching during the pre-roll ad without ever reaching your video (i.e., an “abandonment”).
- Gross revenue: The estimated total amount of money your video made from ads before it's split between you and your revenue-sharing partners (i.e., YouTube and other YouTube partners).

Well Thnx For Upvotes :)
First you need subscribers, then a youtube partnership. And you need to monetize your videos.
Look at someone who has 300,000 subscribers, and their videos usually garner anywhere from 500,000 to several million views.
This is the formula: $5.50 per 1000 views, in most cases, although higher if your subscribers are above 1 million. 1,000,000 views divided by 1000 multiplied by $5.50 = $5500. Then YouTube takes a 45% fee deduction of the profits, so after all is said and done, you receive $3025.
Suffice to say, someone who has at least 100,000 subscribers and makes videos regularly which generate a few hundred thousand views can make a modest living, especially if they do it in their spare time and invest their earnings so the IRS can't claim it.

YouTube videos make money from the ads served on the video.
The income is calculated based on RPM - revenue per thousand views. The range in the RPM is anywhere from $0.50 to. $5 per thousand views.
That means depending the types of ads served on your video and if they are relevant to make people watch/ click them then your video can make anywhere in between $2.50 to $25 for those 5,000 views.
And that's if those are 5,000 monetizable views, because they don't serve ads on every view. Therefore a video can have 5,000 views but only have 3,000 of those views monetized. Due to factors like people watching on smart TV's. They don't serve ads on TV apps but they still give you the view on the video if you get what I mean.

Consider this:
Business strategists at WalMart feel that the supermarket chain can boost its earnings by simply having more people visit their stores. So, they decide on opening stores in areas where they can attract a larger chunk of crowd.
They feel that if more people would visit their store, they would naturally buy more.
At first glance, that sounds perfectly right.
But, what if WalMart fails to provide anything of value to their customers (demographic mismatch)? Or what if most of the customers turn out to be not really interested in buying anything and just pass by to another store (unrelated ads)?
In that case, WalMart can keep on increasing the customer influx and yet not have a noticeable impact on its profitability (low conversion ratio).
Now, replace your question with this: How much money has WalMart made if 5000 customers visited their store today?
It’s hard to come up with a number, unless you know:
So, the equation would actually be A*B and not 5000*B.
That’s exactly the case with YouTube videos.
It’s hard to say how much money you can make with 5000 views, since it’s not proportional to the number of views, but depends on the clicks/views received on the advertisement shown before your video starts playing.
It also depends on the CPC/CPI of the advertisement. [Read: How to increase Adsense CPC on Youtube?]
CPI (Cost Per impression) and CPC (Cost Per Click) are indicators of how much an advertiser is willing to pay for every user interaction.
For example, an investment firm makes much more in profits by selling a home insurance to a customer than a company selling a smartphone. However, selling a smartphone is much easier compared to selling a home insurance.
That’s the reason CPC/CPI rates for home insurance related terms are higher than the ones for smartphones, and you could end up making much more money if you’re creating educational videos, like, ‘Picking the Best Insurance Plan for Your Home: 10 Things You Need to Know’ than ‘Review of the Latest Smartphone in Town’.
Just to make you understand why the number of views is not a good enough metric, consider this example.
Let’s say you make two videos like I suggested above. After 30 days, the first video ends up with just 5000 views, while the second one gets 10000 views.
Now, do you think you have made more money with the second video? Well, not necessarily.
Here’s what could happen.
First video earnings:
CPC: 1.47*
Conversion ratio: 10%* (optimistic assumption)
Earnings: 10000*0.1*1.47 = $1470
Second video earnings:
CPC: 16.57*
Conversion ratio: 2%* (fair assumption)
Earnings: 5000*0.02*16.57 = $1657
That being said, there are YouTubers that makes millions by making videos every year. YouTube gaming star PewDiePie made nearly $7m in 2014, while the famous ‘Gangnam Style’ video is estimated to have made Psy over $8 million.

You can't retroactively monetize a video, but if you're asking about how much you can make in advertising off a video that generates 5k views, I'd think about it like this:
$5CPM
45% of your revenue goes to youtube
20% of your inventory will probably have ads
30% to your MCN
You make $1-2 per 1,000 views, so $5-10.

It is a sad truth that it is not easy to make a living off of Youtube views; and this is exactly how Patreon came to be.
A couple years ago, a musician named Jack Conte spent months and months and thousands of dollars creating a music video for his song "Pedals," featuring a number of handmade robots and shiny set design. When the video was finally released on Youtube, it received over a million views and tons of praise. But after all was said and done, not only did Jack not make any money off of the video, he lost money.
This was not ok, Jack thought. Creators work just as hard as everyone else, so why was it so hard to make a living as one? With this in mind, Jack teamed up with a friend from college, and began building a site where Jack could share his videos with all of his fans, in exchange for a small payment each time he posted a new creation.
Two years later, Jack has over 1,000 patrons on Patreon, pledging over $5,000 for every video he shares with them. This is income he wouldn't otherwise have and for content that he is already making.
But Jack is not alone. Each month, creators on Patreon earn a collective $3.5 million+ for their videos, art, writing, and other creative expressions.
This is the future of patronage and it is incredible. With the increasing amount of free content at our fingertips, Patreon is turning it into an opportunity for creators worldwide to not only fund their dreams but to help inspire them to keep dreaming.

Well, It depends on what country’s traffic is coming on that video with 5,000 views.
For example, here’s one of my friend who earns $800 p/ month from YouTube. I thought why not share his case study with the world to get some motivation.
Because new YouTubers can’t always wait for success, this is why we need to give them some motivation as well as advice at the same time, so they can SEE the results they’ll get after implementing on the strategies.
Hi There! You cannot make out your income amount out of 5000 views on a Youtube video. That is mainly because the Ad sense account (if you expect to earn through it) gives out different rates of per 1000 views from Ad sense accounts applied through different Tier countries. With 5000 views, well it’s not very much to be honest. The Video Bloggers have millions of views on their videos that’s why they earn so much out of it.
You could consider hosting your videos on popular online education websites like Online Learning, Online Training Courses, Elearning. Here you just need to upload your videos and marketing of videos/courses is done by the website. Through educational videos, you are likely to earn more from such online educational websites rather than Youtube. As people mainly go to Youtube for entertainment rather than learning.

5,000 views? Very little. You make between $1.36 and $3.40 per 1,000 views. So a video getting 5,000 views would earn you between $6.80 and $17 (after Google takes out their 32% AdSense share). The only way to make any substantial revenue from YouTube videos is make videos that get in the high 6 digits in views (even 500,000 views would net you no mtore than $1,700). Most people earning their income from YouTube supplement that with sponsorships from advertisers (for example, if you have over 1 million subscribers and most of your videos get 600,000+ views, companies will want to pay you to help advertise their products), or by setting up deals with companies like Audible and Netflix where they get revenue when someone signs up to those services using their personalized links).
If you are making educational videos, good for you and I encourage you to do so. Just don't expect to make anything but pocket change with 5,000 views.

Short answer is, it depends, if you are making videos about house mortgages and the CPC is high you could make lots of money. If you are making videos that no ads can be run against you could make nothing. Average is about 1-4 dollars per thousand views. So $10 maybe?

Depends on the video content and ads displayed, but usually $1.50-$4 per 1000 views. So with 5000 views, $7.5 to $20 assuming linear scaling. Another confounding factor affecting this is mobile views - which currently aren't monetized in the (old) iOS app - so I'd wager on the lower end of this. Anyone with an account can sign up for Partnership right now to start monetizing videos with ads in this fashion.
I remember few months back, I've read so many sources about how much I can make from 1000 views. However, after starting my channel, I realized it was NOT true. This is a quick video of me explaining generally how you make money on Youtube.

If your videos are for a really specific niche, you could get sponsors for your videos. Then charge $100/month or what ever amount of want to show their product or service in the video. Not lot of people doing this which is surprising because some people who do do this make loads more money then people just using rolling ads on youtube.

If you are very mainstream and get millions of views you might make some money. The quality of your content might not have to be good either, but it just has to appeal to the masses. However if have really good content that does appeal to a certain niche that would actually really value your content then you will make nothing on Youtube. In that case you should consider uploading your videos to sites like ...
or
your 5,000 views won’t make enough money to withdraw cause YouTube allows you to withdraw the atleast $100. You can expect $1 per 1000 views roughly. So you will need minimum 100k views to withdraw the first $100. YouTube on the other hand does not allow you to reveal the money people make on their views and revealing them can can get their channel banned.
BTW, Good luck. :)
BTW, Good luck. :)
I am not sure about the method used for determining the money generated. But from my personal experience I can say this is far from it.
In total I have about 150,000 views in total on my channel. And views ranging from few hundred to 30,000 per video. Despite being monetized from day 1- In total I have only earned about 5 $ in total.
The cash which is derived depends on how unique your video might be.
Although all my videos are completely unique, certain people might have similar videos thereby reducing the revenue in question derived from such a video. in the photos I am attaching you would notice that despite Windows 10 video having much lesser views in total compared to origin or steam or dota 2 videos, it has generated the MAXIMUM revenue out of all my videos as it is one of the most unique videos.
Also, only monetizing wouldn’t help. In order to make it work, I had to first reach 100,000 views after which I was given a tag called “Youtube Partner” which enabled me to start earning and stuff, which is done after signing an agreement. So frankly don’t expect money as such out of it. I make these videos in order to help out people facing similar problems.. Initially I made my first video so that a few of my friends who were facing the issue can fix it themselves than making me do the work :/
And I monetized it in order to see what exactly is the revenue generated from the same. I have no intention to actually withdraw the same.
Please refer below to the screenshots to get all the relevant information.
I personally cannot give you more accurate information than my own account.

It’s difficult to estimate how much money you will make for 5,000 views without knowing the specific category. Each category and market will have different advertisers who are willing to pay $X.XX for each video ad view.
Having said that, a high estimate would be $7 for every 1000 views with an ad impression. A low estimate would be $1 for every 1000 views with an ad impression. A video with 5,000 ad impressions would therefore earn you between $5 and $35.
These estimate figures are derived from information disclosed by TubeMogul, a video advertising company.
I started my financial education website (www.skyviewtrading.com) hoping the revenue would come from ads. Boy, was I naive.
However, I've made more money than I ever thought possible. But I didn't do it from ads. In fact, I don't even allow ads on my videos.
Here's the key: upload videos and gain a big following. Don't even try to make money in the beginning. Once you give away a ton of value in your videos for free, people will nearly be begging to give you money for something... Then start charging a monthly fee for "premium content" on your website. This is very easy to set up on wordpress.
Like someone mentioned below, it's very tough to make money from ads. But don't let that stop you from posting videos. There are other better ways to make money from your videos!
Hope that helps!

I’ll Just keep it short.
First, If you want to do YouTube for money. You definitely should not! there are alot of higher paying jobs that require less effort!
Now back to your question. There are alot of factors that decide how much money your video will make. For Example :-
The type of video, by that i mean it should be advertiser friendly. If your video is advertiser friendly, It will earn more than a non advertiser friendly video! Your country also influences the amount you ‘ll make. USA has higher CPM than USA.
You’ll make 2–5$ in India if you get 5000 views.
the money paid by you tube is different for different types of videos they provide various types of ads on your video for wich they pay you different -different amount
they pay high for tech videos .
and the money paid u also depends on your viewers
they pay less amount for indian and any other asian countries the pay amount is high for western country veiwers.
from 5000 views you earning may vary from 5 USD to 25 USD.
About 15$
But my advice is to start some well paid profession instead of youtube (more money for same work),
There are several ways to start marketing,
like online business (almost impossible to start right now.. including youtube, because of competition),
or offline to start promoting other companies (much more profitable than online business) by entering Lyoness network. Also you can purchase everything with cash back deals, and earn 0.5% from every your affiliate. I'm working this 2 years in my country, so.. I can tell those one who work lyoness now in the USA (or those who starting now), have the greatest opportunity to become rich, and made great network (that's because USA is relatively new in lyoness network, and there is still a LOOOT of people waiting for you to recruit them). This comment is too short to explain everything about this business, so everyone interested can email me at: lyonessmanager@hotmail.com (feel free to do it, and I will respond within 24h with more information's, videos, tutorials, invitation links etc...)
P.S. this offer is the best opportunity for business owners too, by driving traffic to their shops, restaurants, services etc...
I hope I have helped Everyone
Cheers

First thing is youtube doesn’t pay for view it pays only for number of impressions and ads appearing on your page . for different regions of world we have different number of rates of clicks and impression . India & Pakistan and Asian countries have very low rates where as us , UK have higher rate .
but for normal people we can generally say that youtube pays around 1–2 $ in India . if u have good click rate . in initial period of your channel its around .2-.5 $ ..for more details you can visit my youtube channel .
Look it is not so easy to make money from google adsense. But if your videos are popular of youtube then you can make some amount of money from it.
If your goal of reaching 5000 views accomplishes then you can make hardly 50$ i think because not all people clicks on ads.
But if you want a constant income from Youtube then your channel must be very popular and have views in millions and a lot of subscribers because it matters.
Go ahead and start your channel. I wish all the best and good luck.
